Mary & Dick

In 1972, Dick and Mary’s friend’s father needed blood. This prompted both Dick and Mary to start donating. At the time, they didn’t realize that blood donations were needed. After moving to Florida in 1985, they continued their life-saving blood donations at Winter Haven Hospital’s Community Blood Center. Both Dick and Mary praise the Community Blood Center’s “super caring” staff. Dick donates platelets, and Mary donated red blood cells until January of 2016, when she was diagnosed with NK/T-cell lymphoma. Roger

Roger Bergere, a Babson Park resident, is a very busy man.   You can usually find him hard at work on one of the various community service projects he is dedicated to.   About every 2 months Roger takes a break from his other work however and drives 32 miles to Winter Haven Hospital Community Blood Center to donate blood. Roger has been donating blood about every 2 months for more than 62 years.  He has donated more than 45 gallons of blood; an astounding number considering they all were Whole Blood donations.  None were apheresis donations which allows someone
